Knowing in advance the characteristics of the stretch of road (e.g. curve) you are about to tackle allows you to drive not only safer, but also more fluidly. The driver knows in advance the most appropriate speed range for the upcoming curve, and can change his set-up in good time (avoiding dangerous braking, especially in the case of non-optimal conditions, such as in the wet). The “warning” (visual and audible) which, if enabled, automatically warns the driver if the current speed is not compatible with the expected one, further increases driving safety. But knowing the curve also allows you to better modulate the steering.

It is clear that knowing the route also has an impact on consumption. Taking a bend at excessive speed is not only dangerous, but also requires heavy braking on corner entry and greater acceleration on exit. It may seem strange, but too low an entry or travel speed (compared to the right range) is also penalizing, because it involves greater acceleration when exiting a corner, with consequent greater consumption. But the number of braking and accelerations themselves is also much greater, when you don’t know the type of corner you are about to tackle. All this leads to a driving behavior that is the exact opposite of what should be done for “economy” driving.
In order to avoid estimating the obtainable level of savings too roughly, we have created a special device which, acquiring from the vehicle itself (from the OBD2 port) the main parameters (instantaneous consumption, accelerator pressure, brake pressure, steering angle, etc.) , has allowed us to verify “on the road” the behavior of users who scrupulously follow the indications of CoDrive, from that of users who do not use it. This allowed us to quantify, after a few months of testing, the average fuel saving at around 10% (up to 15% on extra-urban roads) and the average battery saving at almost 18% (for electric vehicles).

Once the journey has been concluded, the algorithm allows for the elaboration of a “driving report” with assessments of the behavior followed, also allowing the journey just completed to be reviewed, highlighting (with different colors and gradations), for each curve, the level of driving proficiency.
This allows you to understand where and what went wrong, in order to improve your driving style. The “scores” can be configured so as to give more or less important weights to the various elements (safety, consumption, combination of the two aspects) and to be adapted to the level of driving experience. The reports can be both single and “by aggregate” (e.g.: for a specific group, for an entire fleet, etc.).
CoDrive, as a further stimulus for improvement, also offers the possibility of publishing data on your driving style, in the desired area of use (e.g.: within a fleet, a group, a specific community or the community of users registered with CoDrive), to compare them with those of others and giving you the opportunity to compete in rankings for the safest or most ecological driving, or other combinations of criteria and styles!
